The next Career Development webinar will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Scientists constantly use written text to express their findings and proposals, but rarely receive formal training in prose development. This webinar will introduce neurorehabilitation professionals to prose techniques that draw on Dr. Philip’s dual experience as a rehabilitation neuroscientist and professional science fiction writer. Participants will learn how to set reader expectations through a clear sense of narrative direction, support readability with a continuous focus of attention, and build readers’ trust through a series of tensions and resolutions.

Submissions:

Submissions are invited in the form of grant applications, manuscripts, or similar scientific texts, ideally that the author wishes to improve. Preference will be given to works that have not yet been published.
Full-length texts (e.g., complete manuscripts) are preferred; however, submissions of at least one page will also be considered.
From the submitted materials, a small number of brief excerpts (1–2 paragraphs each) will be selected based on their ability to illustrate opportunities for improving scientific writing through prose techniques.
Submission indicates consent for the selected excerpts to be anonymized and shared in this and future presentations.
