Getting to know Dr. Hayward...

Q: What factors influenced your career choice?
A: A love of working with people, a passion to enable an individual to achieve their best outcome, supportive sister who made me believe anything was possible, and an amazing mentor who was an enthusiologist ++

Q: What do you do to keep fit?
A: Growing up in the tropics of northern Australia I love to be outdoors. These days that means running in the forest on campus, hiking the beautiful mountains of Vancouver and road cycling to a beach/lake/river!

Q: If you could have dinner with anyone, living or not, who would that be?
A: Why choose one when you can have three! Pat Rafter (Australian tennis player - childhood sporting hero), Brene Brown and Simon Sinek

Q: What's your favorite holiday?
A: Lighthouse Beach in Australia – for my entire life this has been my families holiday beach destination!

Q: What are the favorite things about your career?
A: Mentoring junior scientists; learning constantly from my patients, students and colleagues; thinking with brilliant people that are scattered around the world (so travel comes in here too!) … to name a few.

Dr. Kate Hayward's research focuses on understanding ‘right dose, right person, right time’ as it relates to upper limb training and recovery post-stroke, and with a particular focus on people with more severe impairment. The overall goal of her program of research is to advance individualised patient treatment post-stroke to optimise motor recovery and return to functioning in real world environments.
