Getting to know Dr. Wheaton...

Dr. Lewis Wheaton's research is interested in understanding neurophysiology guiding skillful human-object interactions in upper extremity motor control, with an emphasis on amputation and stroke. He uses neuroimaging to identify anatomical and physiological circuits in humans that guide successful skilled behavior.

 

Q: What is your favorite book?
A: This is always changing! I've been reading Charles Todd's 'Inspector Ian Rutledge' mystery series, which are all my favorite. Also, the Bible.

Q: What do you do to keep fit?
A: I hit up the local gym 3-4 days per week, primarily lifting weights.

Q: What is your favorite thing about your career?
A: Helping people. Whether that be students, research participants, or anyone in ASNR. I enjoy helping them have a great career!  

Q: If you could have dinner with anyone, living or not, who would that be?
A: That is easy. Frederick Douglass.

Q: Three adjectives that best describe you?
A: I asked my wife and children for one each: hardworking, dedicated, intelligent. Boom!

Q: One bucket list item you absolutely must do?
A: Spending a few weeks in Egypt, traveling down the extent of the Nile River from Alexandria to Aswan.

Q: What is a quote/phrase/motto you live by?
A: Honest effort and hard work are always rewarded.

Q: Who had the greatest influence on you?
A: My wife

Q: Do you have children? 
A: I have 2 VERY busy boys

Q: Best advice anyone has given you?
A: My father, who instilled in me that “honest effort and hard work are always rewarded”.
