2012 ASNR Conference
The application of new insights in neural repair

and motor control to neurorehabilitation

Meeting Format:

The keynote speakers (Dr. Mindy Levin and Dr. Douglas Katz) will address in their award lectures the application of basic science principles of motor control and motor learning to enhancing upper limb motor recovery after stroke, and recent advances in understanding TBI from pathophysiologic research and prospective neurosurgical studies.

After the award lectures, a symposium will be organized on the effects of Parkinson’s disease on the cognition, perception and gait as a source of decline in daily functional activities and quality of life. Outcomes from neuropsychological tests, visual psychophysical, cognitive and imaging techniques and human motion analyses will be reported.  At the end of the meeting there will be a poster session and all registered attendees will be welcome to present their posters.

A second  symposium will be offered on sleep disturbances commonly observed after traumatic brain injury.  The nature of the impairments to sleep centers due to acceleration/ deceleration injury sleep centers deep in the brain will be explained.  The symposium will cover the relevant literature of sleep disturbance in brain injury as well as treatment options for patients at various stages of recovery.  Future directions for research will be discussed as well.

At the end of the meeting there will be a poster session and all registered attendees will be welcome to present their posters.
