2025 ASNR Annual Meeting Professional Development Session Proposals

Thank you for your interest in submitting a Professional Development Session proposal to be considered for inclusion in the 2025 ASNR Annual Meeting Program in Atlanta, GA. Please note all submissions are due Friday, November 8, 2024.

All organizers and presenters of selected proposals will be required to complete a financial disclosure form.

Description:
Panel - Tied into the list of preferred topics, this would be a proposal to form a panel of experts to discuss one of the professional development topics being showcased. The proposal would need to contain a proposed method of discussion, and the names of potential panelists. The objective would be to explore the professional development topic thoroughly and interactively, from the experience and perspectives of the expert panelists.

Demonstration - Tied into the list of preferred topics, this would be a proposal to form a panel of experts to actively demonstrate/teach the audience a cutting edge skill or practice through a combination of lecture  and interactive hands-on experience.

Workshop - Tied into the list of preferred topics, this would be a proposal to teach the audience a skill or practice through a combination of lecture format and hands-on experience to enhance a specific domain of professional development.

Conflicting perspectives (i.e. debate) - This would be a proposal to form a panel of experts to engage in critical discussion on a professional development topic of interest, including the presentation of points and counter arguments on the topic from a neurorehabilitation perspective.

SAMPLE INSTRUCTIONAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSION:
Title: Research Study Management: Manageable Bites or More than You Can Chew?

Educational Objectives: On completion of this session participants will be able to
- Discuss pros and cons of the Spinal Cord Injury Functional Index (SCI-FI)and the Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC) Pediatric Measure (SHC-Pediatric Measure)
- Appreciate the advantages of having the capability to measure function in a continuous way across the lifespan and describe how adult and pediatric measures can be linked
- Discuss considerations in selecting short form vs. computer adaptive (CAT) functional measures for SCI clinical practice and research
- Explain how innovative adult and pediatric SCI functional assessments can be incorporated to advance SCI research and clinical practice

Synopsis:
This session will include highlights from opportunities and challenges clinical scientists from diverse backgrounds (stage of career, type of research, varying populations) as well as different neurorehabilitation backgrounds have faced during their careers. The aim is to share what has worked and what has not, and to garner unique and transparent perspectives in navigating the academic landscape in our fields. Themes that we will focus on include appropriateness of study to career juncture, choosing your study team and study participant diversity.
