Dr. Mindy Levin

Dr. Mindy F. Levin, PhD, PT, is Professor in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy at McGill University and Director of the Sensorimotor Control and Virtual Reality Laboratory at the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital Site of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal. She holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Motor Recovery and Rehabilitation since 2005. Dr. Levin trained as a physiotherapist at McGill University (B.Sc. 1976) and specialized in neurological rehabilitation before obtaining a M.Sc. degree in Clinical Sciences from the University of Montreal in 1985 followed by a Ph.D. in Physiology from McGill University in 1990 and post-doctoral studies at the Neurological Science Research Center in the Department of Physiology at the University of Montreal. She was the Scientific Director of the Research Centre of the Rehabilitation Institute of Montreal between 1997 and 2001, and Director of the Physical Therapy Program at McGill University between 2004 and 2008. Dr. Levin was President of the International Society for Motor Control from 2005 to 2007, is a founding member of the International Society for Virtual Rehabilitation and currently serves as Vice-President. She is also a founding member of the International Neurological Physical Therapy Association (INPA), branch of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy. She is currently Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada and Editor of the journal, Motor Control.

Dr. Levin's research focuses on the mechanisms underlying motor deficits after brain lesions as well as the mechanisms of motor recovery and motor learning primarily regarding movements related to reaching and grasping, using novel therapy approaches including virtual reality technology. Her research encompasses patients with neurological deficits such as cerebral palsy, stroke and Parkinson’s Disease.
